Álvaro de Campos é um poeta que só existiu na imaginação do seu criador, Fernando Pessoa, escritor e poeta português que viveu entre 1888-1935. A sua popularidade é enorme e continua a crescer, e não só nos países de língua portuguesa.
Álvaro de Campos is a poet who only existed in the imagination of his creator, Fernando Pessoa, a writer who lived from 1888-1935. His popularity is enormous and still growing, and not only in the Portuguese-speaking world.
Pessoa criou muitos heterónimos: usava-os para mudar seu estilo de escrita ou para expressar diferentes vozes e ideias.
Pessoa created many aliases or heteronyms: he used them to change his writing style or to acquire a different voice.
Álvaro de Campos é apenas uma dessas muitas vozes, mas para os de Tavira, ele é especial, porque, segundo seu criador, nasceu nesta cidade no dia 15 de Outubro de 1890. Por isso, celebramos o seu aniversário, fazendo uma festa!
Álvaro de Campos is just one of many of those voices, but for the people in Tavira he is special, because according to his creator he was born in this town in 1890, on the 15th of October. Reason enough to celebrate his birthday and offer him a party.
Todos os anos, desde 2015, a Associação Cultural Partilha Alternativa coordena esta celebração com a participação de artistas individuais e associações culturais de Tavira, e de outras paragens, estudantes, empresas, instituições governamentais e organizações sem fins lucrativos.
Every year since 2015, the cultural association Partilha Alternativa coordinates this celebration with the participation of individual artists and cultural associations from Tavira and elsewher, .students, enterpreneurss and many other governmental institutions and not for profit organizations.
Esta celebração tem como objetivo homenagear um autor importante e associar a nível nacional e internacional, o nome da cidade ao desta personagem, e também apresentar ao público o trabalho criativo de artistas de Tavira profissionais e não-profissionais, e de artistas convidados, inspirados na obra de Fernando Pessoa. Entendemos que para desenvolver uma infraestrutura artística e cultural saudável, os artistas merecem um apoio sólido da cidade onde vivem e trabalham, mas também precisam de ser vistos.
The aim of this celebration, apart from honoring an important author, and creating a relationship between the city and the personagem, is to present to the public Tavira artists, professional and non-professional, and guest artists. We feel that, in order to develop a healthy cultural and artistic infrastructure the artists deserve solid support, from the city they live and work in, but also, they need to be seen.
Por isso é também objetivo do programa que a obra de Pessoa e principalmente, a do heterónimo tavirense Álvaro de Campos, seja apropriada pelos cidadãos natos ou residentes do concelho, como um seu especial e inequívoco património cultural imaterial, e usada como fonte de inspiração e referência para novas criações e intervenções artísticas de naturezas várias.
Therefore, it is also the objective of the program that Pessoa’s work and, mainly, that of the Tavirian heteronym Álvaro de Campos, be appropriated by native citizens or residents of the municipality, as their special and unequivocal intangible cultural heritage, and used as a source of inspiration and reference for new creations and artistica interventions of various natures.
Lançamos desafios em temas pessoanos às Escolas de Tavira, para serem trabalhados e apresentados a público, através de projetos de artes visuais em classe, oficina de gravura, oficinas de encenação teatral, e aulas de artes performáticas curriculares. O AEJAC, (Agrupamento de Escolas Jorge Augusto Correia), desde a nossa terceira edição, considera a participação dos alunos na FESTA DOS ANOS como parte das atividades curriculares anuais. No primeiro ano a participação foi de 20 alunos da Escola secundária, numa curta exposição, atingindo mais de 700 alunos de todos os graus no ano de 2023.
We launched challenges on Pessoan themes to the Schools of Tavira, to be worked through visual arts projects in class, engraving workshops, theatrical staging workshops, and curricular performing arts classes. AEJAC, (Agrupamento de Escolas Jorge Augusto Correia) since our third edition, considers student’s participation in the BIRTHDAY PARTY as part of the annual curricular activities. In the first year, 20 secondary school students participated in a short exhibition, reaching more than 700 students of all grades in 2023.
Através de sua obra tentamos fazer acontecer a inclusão de cidadãos dos mais diversos tecidos sociais, funções e capacidades, dando destaque à sensibilidade artística de todos, através de ações que levam, por exemplo, a escolhas poéticas que são num ano publicadas num jornal local, e no ano seguinte, retrabalhadas por artistas em projetos com estudantes, e devolvidas aos autores das escolhas num formato dramatizado, trabalhado através de disciplinas artísticas como teatro, música, dança, artes visuais.
Through his work we try to make the inclusion of citizens from the most diverse social fabrics, functions and capabilities happen, highlighting everyone’s artistic sensitivity, through actions that lead, for example, to poetic choices that are published in a local newspaper one year, and the following year, reworked by artists in projects with students, and returned to the authors of the choices in a dramatized format, worked through artistic disciplines such as theater, music, dance, visual arts.
Convidamos o comércio local a participar do movimento Versos A Giz, para que cada vez mais estabelecimentos na cidade exponham versos de Pessoa em suas lousas de anúncio durante o período da FESTA, e cada vez mais chefes pasteleiros criem receitas exclusivas de Doces Pessoa, usando os moldes impressos em 3D pelo Centro Ciência Viva Tavira em colaboração direta com a FESTA, à qual também emprestam seu telescópio para se observar a lua no dia em que os poemas de Campos a celebram numa leitura comum onde o público se transforma no côro grego de uma ação dramática protagonizada pela própria lua.
We invite local businesses to participate in the Versos A Giz movement, so that more and more establishments in the city display Pessoa’s verses on their advertising boards during the FESTA period, and more and more pastry chefs create exclusive recipes for Doces Pessoa, using the molds printed in 3D by the Centro Ciência Viva Tavira in direct collaboration with FESTA, to which they also lend their telescope to observe the moon on the day that Campos’ poems celebrate it in a common reading where the public becomes the Greek chorus of a dramatic action starring the moon itself.
No projeto Doce Pessoa é de destacar a participação anual da turma das aulas de culinária da Fundação Irene Rolo, instituição que apoia pessoas com deficiência e incapacidade. Confeccionam o Arroz-Doce Pessoa, que já vai acançando a fama de ser o melhor arroz-doce da cidade.
In the Doce Pessoa project, it is worth highlighting the annual participation of the group in cooking classes at the Irene Rolo Foundation, an institution that supports people with disabilities. They make Arroz-Doce Pessoa, which is already gaining the reputation of being the best rice pudding in the city.
Outra forma de promover a inclusão num concelho com Tavira, onde 27% dos residentes são estrangeiros, sendo que destes mais de 30% de língua materna inglesa, e a esmagadora maioria falantes de inglês como segunda língua, é fazermos traduções em inglês em todas as performances, seja em formato de projeção em tempo real, seja através da distribuição de folhetos com os conteúdos traduzidos. Sendo Fernando Pessoa um poeta que também escreveu muito em inglês, também temos dedicado alguma da programação aos poemas em inglês, sendo que nesses casos, as traduções são em português.
Another way to promote inclusion in a municipality like Tavira, where 27% of residents are foreigners, of which more than 30% speak English as their mother tongue, and the overwhelming majority speak English as a second language, is to provide English translations in all performances, whether in real-time projection format or through the distribution of leaflets with translated content. Since Fernando Pessoa is a poet who also wrote a lot in English, we have been dedicating some of the programming to poems in English, and in these cases, the translations are in Portuguese.
Temos coletadas traduções de dois versos marcantes para esta FESTA DOS ANOS, em mais de 2 dezenas de línguas que sãi faladas em Tavira, feitas por residentes locais. Entre elas consta o Romani Caló, falado pela população de etnia cigana do concelho. Os versos são publicados na primeira página do site da FESTA, impressos em uma coleção de postais para venda como lembrança da FESTA nas galerias e sedes das associações participantes, e também no stand do tradutor em Romani Caló, na praça do Coreto, centro de Tavira.
We have collected translations of two important verses for this FESTIVAL OF THE YEARS, in more than 2 dozen languages that are spoken in Tavira, made by local residents. Among them is Romani Caló, spoken by the gypsy population of the municipality. The verses are published on the front page of the FESTA website, printed on a collection of postcards for sale as a souvenir of the FESTA in the galleries and headquarters of the participating associations, and also at the translator’s stand in Romani Caló, in Praça do Coreto, center of Tavira .
A FESTA DOS ANOS DE ÁLVARO DE CAMPOS colabora para criar tais oportunidades todos os anos, durante essa celebração – de 15 de outubro, data do “nascimento” de Álvaro de Campos, até ao último dia de novembro, dia da morte de Fernando Pessoa. Os eventos incluem performances, exposições, concertos, conferências, doçaria e roteiros poéticos. Desde a sua génese, contou com artistas de outros países e tem desenvolvido uma relação especial e constante com poetas escoceses, especialmente em Glasgow, onde Álvaro de Campos se “formou engenheiro naval” (profissão que só exerceu no Reino Unido antes de voltar para Portugal, segundo a vontade do seu criador). Pontualmente tem trabalhado com artistas do Brasil, do Japão e da Espanha.
The FESTA DOS ANOS DE ÁLVARO DE CAMPOS tries to offer them this opportunity every year, during this celebrations, from the 15th of October, birthday of the character, until the last day of November day of death of Fernando Pessoa. Since its creation, the event has had participating artists from other countries, and has developed a special relationship with Scottish poets, not only but specially from the city of Glasgow, where Álvaro de Campos “graduated as a naval engineer” (profession that he only execised in the United Kingdom, before returning to Portugal, according to the will of its creator. Occasionally we have worked with artists from Brazil, Japan and Spain.
